RED commemorates Gabriela Mistral with a special “bip!” card and intervention at stops in Santiago

- It is a series of celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to the Chilean poet.
- The card is available in ten stations of the Santiago Metro, while one hundred stops in communes such as Santiago, Macul, Peñalolén and Puente Alto will spread his legacy.
Thursday, May 22, 2025.- “What will become of Chile in the sky?” is Gabriela Mistral’s phrase that will be reflected in the new commemorative “bip!” card with which public transport joins the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to the national poet.
This is one of the tributes announced by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications together with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, with the aim of approaching and reuniting with part of the life and work of the outstanding poet through public transport.
Along with this, buses with the image of the Chilean writer will begin to circulate through different districts of the capital. In total, there will be more than 100 machines that will have this graphic with Windows Vision technology incorporated, which does not interfere with the view from the inside of the bus to the outside.
“Public transport has become a very important showcase to disseminate campaigns and promote recreational and cultural activities. For this reason, we did not want to be absent from the tributes to Gabriela Mistral, a source of pride for all her contribution to culture and education in our country, and we want the users of Red Movilidad to be part of this commemoration,” said the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz.
In addition, a graphic intervention was carried out at 100 bus stops, which are located in Santiago, Macul, Peñalolén, La Cisterna and Puente Alto. These include a QR code which, when scanned, directs you to a special site that shows the activities scheduled to relieve Gabriela Mistral.
“80 years ago, Gabriela Mistral became the first person in Latin America to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature and this commemoration highlights her image, her creation, but also the different dimensions of her life as a teacher, as a diplomat. These cards remind us of the phrase we have chosen to celebrate this year: “What will become of Chile in heaven?”. A question that Mistral asked himself in one of the manuscripts of his posthumous work, “The Poem of Chile”, pointed out the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo.
The new commemorative BIP card is available at 10 stations of the Santiago Metro: Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica, República, Pedro de Valdivia, Bellas Artes, Quinta Normal, Bellavista de La Florida, Plaza de Puente Alto, Plaza de Maipú and San Joaquín.
For her part, the director of the DTPM, Paola Tapia, pointed out that “Today we reflect the vision we have as MTT when commemorating the 80th anniversary of Gabriela Mistral’s Nobel Prize, sharing public spaces: our stops are at the service of people and at those stops information about Gabriela Mistral and her career will also be available, as well as the ‘bip!’ card, a symbol that we can share with our children and to whom we can teach them how from rural education, we reach a transportation system like the one we have today.”
