MTT and Ministry of Defense report free public transport and deployment of the Armed Forces for presidential and parliamentary elections 2025

Monday, November 10, 2025.- The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, together with the Minister of National Defense, Adriana Delpiano, detailed the mobility measures in public transport and the facilities available for travel in other modes available for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections that will take place next Sunday, November 16.
In the instance, MTT reported that as usual on these occasions, a special operation plan has been developed that will be applied, both in the capital and in regions, to ensure that mobility conditions are delivered in optimal conditions. In addition to free EFE and Metro services.
In this regard, Minister Muñoz explained that “In Santiago, next Sunday, Red Movilidad will increase its offer by 80% during peak hours, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and by 60% during non-peak hours, compared to a normal Sunday. Metro, meanwhile, will increase its offer by 30% compared to a usual Sunday, and will advance its opening hours to 7:00 a.m. EFE, for its part, in Valparaiso will bring forward the start of the Limache-Port service at 7:00 a.m. In addition, it will have reinforcement of double trains and 12-minute intervals. EFE Central and EFE South will operate as a normal Sunday, bringing forward their opening hours.”
“Very important, as has happened in other election processes, free will be applied in Metro and in EFE’s urban services. An effort that contributes to citizen participation,” said the head of MTT.
In addition, the Transport portfolio reported that 1,696 special services will be available in isolated and rural areas, in land, sea and lake modes, thanks to a subsidy of 509 million pesos. These special operations will be in addition to those subsidized services that usually operate in rural and isolated areas, which will also be operational on election day.
For her part, Minister Delpiano pointed out that “the Armed Forces will be in charge of the internal custody of the polling places, guaranteeing public order. They will be there from 00:00 hours on Friday in those premises that are not schools, and in those that are educational establishments, they will be from 17:00 hours of that same day, so as not to interrupt classes.”
The Secretary of State added that “there will be ease for them to enter the polling place with bicycles, it is something that we are guaranteeing throughout the country. The troops of the Armed Forces that will be deployed are 26,350 and, as in all votes, they fulfill a function of guaranteeing order and also being articulated to provide support to people who have some level of difficulty in exercising their vote. The Armed Forces have always been very committed to that.”
The work on mobility will also include the Traffic Control Operational Unit at the national level, where reinforcement will be applied in the management of traffic lights to give fluidity to traffic in real time, especially in the surroundings of the polling places, along with reporting the situation of traffic and mobility through Transporte Informa on social networks and the Google Maps and Waze platforms.
In addition, MTT, through its Inspection Division, will deploy a team of more than 200 inspectors nationwide to control the operation of subsidized transport services in regions and the dispatch of Red Movilidad buses in Santiago.
