Thursday, May 22, 2025.- More than 1,100 children in Santiago have learned about Red Movilidad during this year thanks to its Educational Team, which teaches about the advances of the capital’s public transport, the integrated fare between buses, Metro and Tren Nos – Central Station, and good practices when using it.
This is an initiative promoted by the Metropolitan Public Transport Directorate (DTPM), which aims to provide children with information about the operation of the system that moves millions of people through the city every day.
Although it was carried out for the first time in 2014, this activity had a break between 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, and returned in 2022 by the Citizen Liaison Management of the DTPM, maintaining itself to this day.
In detail, the monitors of the Educational Team teach relevant aspects such as the benefits of electromobility for the environment and citizenship, how to use the National Student Card (TNE), the importance of paying the ticket and the fines for not complying with this duty.
In this sense, the director of the DTPM, Paola Tapia Salas, mentions that “children are the pillar of the future, and therefore it is very important to educate them from an early age about the care of our public transport in Santiago, which is the most modern on the continent, with the largest fleet of electric buses outside Chinese cities. This information team, made up of monitors, fulfills this task and has already worked with 1,155 students from different sectors of Santiago so far this year.”
This activity is aimed at students from fifth to eighth grade, a crucial stage in which they receive the benefit of free tuition when validating with the TNE, so it is essential that they know and understand the correct use of the system.
So far in 2025, the RED Educational Team has worked with more than 15 schools, colleges and high schools in communes such as San Miguel, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, La Florida, San Joaquín, Lo Espejo, La Granja and La Cisterna.
Teachers and/or principals who are interested in receiving a visit from this information team in their educational establishment can apply by entering the “Team Colegios DTPM” section of the red.cl/minired website and filling out the form.
