Maipú: Road to Rinconada has new road infrastructure for Red Movilidad
  • More than 16 thousand square meters of concrete road, better accessibility conditions for people with disabilities, Solo Bus tracks and the conservation and maintenance of 13 stops were part of the work.
  • The works required an investment of $2 billion, which was financed by the Metropolitan Public Transport Directorate (DTPM).

Tuesday, January 9, 2024.- More than 86 thousand users of public transport can now enjoy newly paved streets, high-standard signage and safer and more welcoming bus stops thanks to the conservation work carried out on Camino a Rinconada, one of the main avenues of Maipú.

These works, which cover about 1.5 kilometers between Las Naciones and El Conquistador streets, required a significant public investment of 2 billion pesos from the Metropolitan Public Transport Directorate (DTPM), and coordinated work with Serviu and the municipality of Maipú.

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz; the director of Metropolitan Public Transport, Paola Tapia; the mayor of Maipú, Tomás Vodanovic; and the director of Serviu RM, Roberto Acosta, officially concluded this process that began in June 2023 and will mainly benefit public transport users and pedestrians.

“Projects like these are not easy to carry out, because they require a high investment and coordination of many factors to mitigate the effects that the works have on the life of the community. But that effort has its reward and today neighbors have a renewed, safer and more accessible infrastructure,” said the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz.

The Secretary of State also added that “we have better accessibility conditions, Solo Bus lanes and the conservation and maintenance of 13 stops. People ask us for safety, and that’s a better stop. People want comfortable rides, and a well-paved street is that.”

For her part, the director of the DTPM, Paola Tapia, indicated that “we carried out the delivery of a work in a structuring axis of the commune of Maipú, such as Camino a Rinconada, which we have financed taking into account that it is a road through which 12 services of Red Movilidad travel. This improves the user experience, with more accessible stops, with better lit and safer stops, in short, better transport for everyone”.

A two-phase work

The repairs were divided into two stages: the first, from Avenida 4 Poniente to El Conquistador, consisted of the paving of 8,500 square meters of concrete roadway, the implementation of a Solo Bus Track and improvements in universal accessibility for people with disabilities, in addition to the conservation and maintenance of eight stops and sidewalks.

In the same way, from Avenida 4 Poniente to Las Naciones 7,660 square meters of concrete roadway were paved with the same high quality standards and work was carried out at five stops and sidewalks.

For the mayor of Maipú, Tomás Vodanovic, “The best way to say is to do. Good intentions are of little use if it is not consistent with good public management that allows people to live better through concrete works. Today, we are very happy, because after more than 6 months of works, we can be re-enabling the Rinconada corridor, one of the main avenues of Maipú, which was totally destroyed, impassable. Red Movilidad buses had been destroyed on the grounds of the holes that existed here. Today we can see a corridor of 100% concrete, with an investment of $2 billion, which allows thousands of residents of the west of the commune to connect without major complications to the Plaza de Maipú Metro.”

The works on Camino a Rinconada are part of the works that DTPM is delivering or finishing in Independencia, El Bosque, Lo Espejo, Recoleta and Peñalolén, among other communes.
