Authorities call for public transport to attend the Tissot UCI 2025 Track Cycling World Championship
- The plan seeks to promote sustainable mobility and public transport during the five days of the event, which will take place at the Peñalolén Velodrome.
Santiago, October 21, 2025.– In the run-up to the Tissot UCI 2025 Track Cycling World Championships, which will take place between October 22 and 26 at the Peñalolén Velodrome, Chilean government and sports authorities led an activity aimed at promoting the use of public transport during the event, which will bring together 341 cyclists from 39 international delegations and more than 600 members of technical teams.
The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT), the Metropolitan Public Transport Directorate (DTPM), the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Institute (IND) and the Municipality of Peñalolén, seeks to guarantee a safe, fast and sustainable experience for the attending public, prioritizing the use of RED buses, Metro and bicycle.
The plan includes the dissemination of the nine bus services that allow access to the Velodrome, unified information in red.cl, signage at accesses and bicycle racks enabled in the surroundings of Peñalolén Park, in order to reduce congestion and order the flows of entry and exit during the days of competition.
A call to move sustainably
The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, pointed out that “A hallmark of this administration has been to ensure that public transport is a safe and accessible offer at the main mass events. In the case of sports, we are in the high-attendance matches, we were at the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, also with the U-20 World Cup in which we innovated with special plans in Santiago, Valparaíso and Rancagua. Now with the Track Cycling World Championship in Peñalolén we will do the same. We understand that public transportation plays a central role in these events that concentrate thousands of people who arrive simultaneously. Collective transport is the most efficient way to move around in these cases, because we facilitate the arrival and departure from the premises and decongest the environment. For this reason, we invite those attending the World Cup to prefer any of the reinforced services that we have implemented for this sports festival.”
Likewise, Paola Tapia, director of the DTPM, revealed that “in recent years Santiago has established itself as an organizer of major sporting events. In the same way, Red Movilidad consolidates itself as a leader in public transport worldwide and this will be seen by the thousands of attendees at the Track Cycling World Championship. There are five routes that arrive at the doors of the Velodrome, 227, 513, D09, D11 and 225, which connect with Providencia, Las Condes, Puente Alto, Cerrillos and Cerro Navia, with electric or low-emission buses, safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly buses.”
In detail, routes 227, 513, D09, D11 and 225 reach the main access, through José Arrieta. In addition, services 418, 420, 425 and 429 pass through the corner of Arrieta and Tobalaba.
For his part, the national director of the IND, Israel Castro, underlined the inter-institutional coordination and the value of the event for the country, highlighting that “we receive the best athletes in this discipline in our Peñalolén Velodrome, and bringing sport closer to people is a central objective. For that, access is key: we have five RED bus routes, mostly electric, comfortable and comfortable, that arrive on Av. José Arrieta. We invite families to participate and experience a unique global event in our country and in the continent.”
Finally, the mayor of Peñalolén, Miguel Concha, stressed the local commitment to security and the community. “We are proud that Peñalolén is the scene of the most important track cycling sporting event in the world, it gives us the certainty that our commune continues to be emblematic in terms of sports and we hope that it will continue to be so in the future. During the next few days we want everyone to celebrate this great celebration of sport, but that we do it safely and calmly, so we ask you to use public transport, since not only were your routes reinforced, but it is also the fastest, most efficient and sustainable way to get to and experience this World Cup”, said the communal authority.
A city on the move
The operation reinforces the sustainable and accessible mobility strategy promoted after the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, consolidating Santiago as a city prepared for major international events.
During the five days of competition, 22 official events will be held (11 male and 11 female), with daily finals and exclusive broadcast on TVN. Chile thus becomes the third South American country to host a UCI Track World Championship, after Venezuela and Colombia, marking a new milestone in national sports history.
