Plan from 6 to 6 p.m.: MTT detailed control measures for National Holidays and reinforcements for public transport
- The Inspection Division of the ministry plans to develop more than 630 control points, which began with a special deployment on August 18 and will continue to be developed with special attention in points of high agglomeration of people such as bus terminals until the end of the holiday.
- The Metropolitan Public Transport Directorate (DTPM) reported that the special operation measures will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17.
Wednesday, September 10, 2025.- Within the framework of the deployment of the Plan from 6 to 6 p.m., the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, together with the Undersecretary of Transport, Jorge Daza; the head of the MTT Inspection Division, Óscar Carrasco; the executive secretary of Conaset, Luz Infante; the DTPM Operations Manager, Paola García; the deputy manager of Line 1 of Metro, Juan Huentupil and the manager of Operations of EFE, Felipe Castro, presented the measures that will be applied for the operation of public transport and inspection for the National Holidays.
In the instance, Minister Muñoz stated that “These dates are synonymous with joy, celebrations, but also and very sadly, they are synonymous with road accidents with deaths. This cannot continue to happen, people cannot continue to die from events that are absolutely avoidable. We want to reinforce the call to understand that the roads, the streets, are spaces that we share and for the same reason, a bad decision can cost us our life or we can end someone else’s. I say decision, because drinking alcohol and taking the wheel is a voluntary, irresponsible and criminal act, as is speeding and so many other behaviors that are taking lives on our streets daily, behaviors that are destroying families.”
The Secretary of State explained that MTT, through its Inspection Division and in close collaboration with the Carabineros and municipalities, plans to develop more than 630 checkpoints until the end of Fiestas Patrias, which already began on August 18, with a special focus on areas of agglomeration of people such as bus terminals and entertainment venues.
“As usual, our inspection teams will be deployed at strategic points, where we will control that vehicles and their drivers circulate in order, complying with everything stipulated by the regulation,” added Minister Muñoz.
In addition to the inspection actions, the reinforcement of public transport during the holidays was reported. In this way, the buses of the RED Mobility system will have special operation on the main axes of the city. In total, there will be 28 services that will have a special operation from Wednesday, September 17 until Sunday 21.
Metro will also be added to these measures, where also from next Wednesday, a reinforcement of personnel will be applied both at the level of operations and security, in the main stations that concentrate nearby celebration points such as Parque O’Higgins and the National Stadium, among others. Meanwhile, EFE will maintain constant monitoring of the flows.
The deployment of reinforcements in public transport and inspections will also be replicated outside the Metropolitan Region, as is the case of Valparaíso or Coquimbo with its traditional Pampilla Festival that will take place from September 17 to 20. In this regard, Undersecretary Jorge Daza stressed that “In La Pampilla, the main festival where the 18th is celebrated nationwide, we have modified the E02 route, to be able to bring people by public transport closer to this celebration. We have done the same in Valparaíso, where we have modified the E05 route to also be able to transfer people from the port center to the Alejo Barrios park sector, where it is also held in Valparaíso. Also, with the reinforcement of urban services in Curicó and also here in the Metropolitan Region a”.
