Construction of the first 4 public electroterminals of Red Movilidad begins
- The new facilities will be located in San Bernardo, Maipú and La Florida, and, in addition to strengthening the operation of the RED system, will raise the standard of public transport workers.
- Santiago currently has a fleet of 3,555 electric buses and 41 electric terminals, which are expected to reach 55 by March 2026.
Santiago, November 13, 2025.- With the aim of providing the buses with adequate infrastructure for their operation and providing better facilities to Red Movilidad workers, the Directorate of Metropolitan Public Transport and Country Development began the construction of the first 4 new electroterminals for the public transport system.
The terminals located in the communes of San Bernardo, La Florida and Maipú will become the first public venues to be enabled for the operation of buses, improving quality standards at strategic points in the city. The long-term state investment will be close to MM$20,000, which will favor participation in bidding processes and allow a more efficient use of public resources.
Paola Tapia Salas, director of Metropolitan Public Transport, highlighted the work carried out together with Desarrollo País, which will raise the standard of operational and rest facilities for Red Movilidad workers, along with the optimization of the operation of different routes and the incorporation of new services for users.
“The new terminals not only improve the operation of the electric fleet, but also the quality of life of the workers who operate the system daily, incorporating safe, inclusive and gender-focused spaces. Each of these enclosures will contribute to the urban recovery of its environment, replacing unused sites with modern infrastructure, with landscaping, safe pedestrian accesses and connection with the residential environment,” Paola Tapia stressed.
The 4 new electroterminals will be operated by the companies Conecta, Voy and Gran Américas, will house a total of 24 public transport services, with more than 80,000m2, and will have an approximate installed power of 7 MW, distributed in 60 electric chargers.
The general manager of Desarrollo País, Patricio Rey, said that “this inauguration marks the culmination of six years of joint work between Desarrollo País and the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, promoting the strengthening of the Metropolitan Public Transport System and its expansion to regions. With these new terminals, which are of a higher standard, we are moving towards a more integrated, modern and sustainable network, which seeks to dignify public transport and give users a level of service that they have never had.”
Red Movilidad currently has a fleet of 3,555 electric buses and more than 70 terminals and depots for the operation of the system. Of these, 41 are currently electric, expecting to reach 55 by March 2026, associated with the incorporation of 1,267 new buses. In addition, each of them will create 270 new jobs, with more than 500 workers per electroterminal.
